Description
Celtic Elegy,
A Tribute to John Hope, Trumpeter#
The ‘Elegy’ is lyrical and reflective, but the middle section is more anguished. John Hope (c.1472-1554) was a court trumpeter in Edinburgh to James IV of Scotland. He is said to have been ‘good company and a popular figure about town, above all an honourable man, and a God-fearing one’. This ‘Tribute’ is a jaunty air to celebrate these characteristics.
