With this work we welcome another Scottish composer to our lists. These preludes are based on the much loved Gaelic folk melody commonly used for the hymn ‘Morning has broken’, and are evidence of a fascination with the atmosphere and emotion of this beautiful tune. The idiom is fairly complex but tonal and appropriate, and the technical demands are surmountable, if not sight-readable.
